On behalf of title sponsor, Subaru we would like to invite you to the fourth annual Subaru Cup.  Mark your calendars and get those vacation requests in, because you can not miss the WORS Mega Event.  Expansion of the already great trails at Nordic Mountain is planned and will commence as soon as the snow melts.  A mid mountain traverse that will significantly reduce the amount of climbing for WORS Sport (USA Cycling Category 2 women and the recreational oriented Category 2 men) and WORS Citizen (Category 3 USA Cycling) competitors will be the emphasis of this year’s construction. Last year’s highly touted cross-country course returns for Elite (USA Cycling Pro and Category 1) and WORS Comp (USA Cycling Category 2 men looking to advance) competitors. The Super D and short track courses from last year will see several new elements to improve enjoyment for all, spectator and rider alike.  On the gravity side, there are five descents on the mountain and features continue to be added. Mountain biking has certainly found a great partner in Nordic Mountain and owner Rick Schmitz.

For cross-country mountain bike racers, the Subaru Cup Stage Race & Omnium formats return. This year’s schedule will again have the Legacy Cross-Country on Saturday afternoon, the Outback Super D on Sunday morning and the Impreza Short Track on Sunday afternoon.  Although competitors may enter any or all the events, those that usually only enter the cross-country only will certainly want to expand their horizons by giving the Outback Super D and/or Impreza Short Track a try.  The 2009 Subaru Cup offers WORS series racers an opportunity to garner two scores toward their overall.   Not only will series points be awarded for a racers cross-country finish but, also for their placing in the Stage Race or Omnium as well.  The exhilarating Outback Super D emphasizes technique over endurance as racers battle the terrain and each other on a course that is 70% gravity assisted with the fastest of the fast knocking down times of less than fifteen minutes.  The short track will be contested on a course that will not only provide spectators with a great show but, treat competitors to a truly thrilling test of power and speed.  USA Cycling Mountain Pros, Semi-Pros and Experts will be racing for a combined purse of $5000 with pay outs for each event and overall placing in the Subaru Cup Stage Race.  The Legacy Cross-Country segment of the Subaru Cup has once again been selected to the AMBC (American Mountain Bike Challenge) calendar and the Stage Race returns to the USA Cycling National Mountain Bike Cross-Country Calendar.  Competitors in Saturday’s cross-country have an opportunity to qualify for the 2009 USA Cycling National Mountain Bike Championships being held in late July at Mount Snow, Vermont.

For gravity riders the Subaru Cup will have two days of lift-supported downhill freeriding fun with competition on Sunday afternoon as we present the Nordic Mountain Downhill Race & Ride.  This year’s Race & Ride has Bill Wilson taking over from Andy Fisher as director as the crew from Riven Downhill continue their legacy of creating challenging yet safe courses that will bring a smile to your face.  So whether you want to race or not, Nordic Mountain is the place to be for great freeriding on June 20th and 21st.

Along with all the great competition, the Subaru Cup will also provide a fantastic weekend of outdoor fun for all with plenty of onsite camping, entertainment, food, manufacturers expo with bike demos, and a bonfire.  Look for updates on the construction progress of Nordic Mountain’s all new beach area as part of their snow making pond expansion.

Whether you elect to compete or not, make sure you don’t miss this event, as with its Consumer Expo and near constant entertainment for spectators and competitors alike, the Subaru Cup is a full weekend of mountain biking fun.  All those driving a Subaru to this event will be treated to “Upfront Parking” adjacent to the Expo area.  Mark your calendars and set your training to peak for June 19-21!  Complete 2009 Subaru Cup Schedule.
